🇲🇶

The Martinique Flag Emoji 🇲🇶 refers to the flag of Martinique which is a French overseas department in the Caribbean area.

The flag has an overall shape of a rectangle and divided into four squares, each of which carries a blue color with a white cross. The upper left quadrant has a depiction of a white fleur-de-lis, which honors the islands French connection.

The blue stands for water and the sky and the white for purity and the value of peace. Though not official, it is used as the national emblem because it depicts Martinique as being part of French and at the same time, show local pride.

The current symbol, the flag of Martinique, was created in 1991 by the independence party, and despite that it is important as a feature of Martiniquan identity and solidarity, it is not the official flag of the region.
