Flag: British Indian Ocean Territory Emoji

The flag of the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a British Overseas Territory in the Indian Ocean, is represented by the 🇮🇴 emoji. 

The Union Jack of British sovereignty appears at the top left above a series of six white stars, representing the islands of the territory. It has blue background as the region is of maritime environment. 

It was officially adopted in 1990. 

The British government designed it as a representation of the territory’s British colonial ties. We use this emoji to discuss the geography, history and political status of the British Indian Ocean Territory.
